Paul Waaktaar-Savoy(吉他/詞曲創作)與Magne Furuholmen(鍵盤)這兩位來自挪威奧斯陸的青年在1980年時就組成Bridges樂團，奮力向樂壇衝刺，不過，首站倫敦就踢到鐵板，兩人覺得樂團需要找位主唱，於是就找來藍調/靈魂樂團Souldier Blue的Morten Harket加入，Morten的嗓音帶著深厚的情感，當他昂揚的歌唱技巧一出，馬上就能營造出一份遼闊、深刻的情緒，Morten的歌聲為A-Ha的電子合成器樂風樹立了獨特的風貌。83年，A-Ha正式組隊，並開始借用Paul父母親的夏日別墅進行創作，84年就完成了 "Take On Me" ，這首單曲前兩次發行都未見起色，直到85年，樂團找來電影【神通情人夢】的導演Steve Barron精心籌劃一支融合素描、動畫、真人合成技術的音樂錄影帶後， "Take On Me" 陸續在美國等地奪下冠軍寶座，影帶也獲得8座MTV音樂錄影帶大獎的肯定，緊接著，樂團繼續以黑暗氣氛的 "The Sun Always Shines On TV" 與悲柔小品 "Hunting High And Low" 在排行榜上攻城掠地，A-Ha瞬間打響挪威在音樂地球村中的知名度。86年，A-Ha以兼具節奏力道與旋律美感的專輯「Scoundrel Days」證明樂團絕不是一曲樂團，專輯中包括了輕巧上口的 "Cry Wolf" 以及寫意動人的 "Manhattan Skyline" 。87年起，A-Ha的樂風更加多元變化，除了為007系列「黎明生機」唱了輕巧、迷人的主題曲 "The Living Daylights" ，還完成了曲勢遼闊、撼人的磅礡情歌 "Stay On These Roads" 。90年，樂團把電子樂器擱在一旁，改以現場樂器伴奏進行錄唱，動人的老歌翻唱曲 "Crying In The Rain" 、陰暗氣息的 "Move To Memphis" 都是這段時期的代表作。94年6月，樂團在俄羅斯聖彼得堡演唱會後暫時劃下休止符，98年，三人應邀在諾貝爾獎頒獎典禮上擔任演唱後，三人的音樂火花重新燃起，2000年起再以 "Summer Moved On" 、 "Lifelines" 等單曲搶攻歐洲排行榜。
